Off-Grid Pottery

After much research, I discovered that the surge from an electric potter's wheel would not work well with solar power. I now have a propane kiln with no electrical components, and a kick wheel.

I did my first single firing ( eliminating the bisque firing ) last week. Everything went well with no breakage. However, a few of my glazes crawled....not enough clay or bentonite in the mix.  The trick is to fire REALLY slow, and to have all pots glazed at the leather hard stage and dry, dry, dry!!

I'm now practicing with the kick wheel.
