Firing Metal With Clay

I use landscape staples, tent stakes, and horseshoe nails in my sculptures. Firing steel posts can be done at cone 07 or lower. The steel will take on a black luster that chips off. Many times, I rub Amaco Rub and Buff on the sanded posts to give a special patina.

When firing my long legged sculptures, I place the legs in kiln posts to prevent slumping. If the legs are too long, they will slump and ruin your shelves.
